Read the Bible for Life: Scholar Series (on Biblical Hermeneutics) Part 3
The next resource I am going to mention in this third post of Read the Bible for Life: Scholar Series is from evangelical Bible scholar Danny Hays who put together the introductory hermeneutical textbook Grasping God's Word: A Hands-on Approach to Reading, Interpreting, and Applying the Bible, Second Edition. Grasping God's Word has been such a helpful and engaging textbook in my life! It is very academic, resourceful, compelling, and relevant to the reader through many illustrations. The textbook never imposes perspectives, but encourages the reader to find the correct perspective by using the hermeneutical tools showcased in the textbook (even though in the end of each chapter, the book correctly explains and defines the right interpretation). The book teaches the reader the "do's" and "don't's" of Bible interpretation, and encourages the reader to use the workbook after completing each chapter. In fact, I have shared and recommended the textbook with others so they can learn how to read, interpret, and apply the Bible with the right hermeneutics. I have also taken several disciples through the book and plan on doing a young men's study with this textbook to educate others about hermeneutics. I highly recommend it!
The videos below are a compilation of variety of topics regarding Bible interpretation by Danny Hays. He remains in the OT narratives and explains how to read them correctly within their proper contexts. It is important to not just read the Scriptures to say what the Scriptures say, but rather read the Scriptures to know what it means. Enjoy!
"For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope." (Romans 15:4)
