The Man's Man or God's Man?

Hey guys, this is for you. As I strive to be as pure as possible in our perverse world that is saturated in sexual temptation and narcissistic gratification, I see that there is only one thing that can help us to be as pure as possible. We cannot be a so called "man's man" because we will not be able to over come sexual sin that way, but will actually make it worse. We need to be what the God calls us to be, a "God's man."

"When it comes down to it, God's definition of real manhood is pretty simple. It means hearing His Word and doing it. That's God's ONLY definition of manhood - a doer of the Word. And God's definition of a sissy is someone who hears the Word of God and does not do it." - Every Man's Battle

You see guys, God does not care about us looking like a man's man. He does not care about us holding back our tears so we don't look weak, or flexing our muscles or demonstrating our strength and skills to show others how tough we are, but on the contrary God looks around and desires to see a God's man, the man that listens to His Word. He wants to see that guy who is obedient and faithful. That person is "God's man." And to be God's man, we need to avoid sexual sin. The number one area all guys stumble in is sexual purity.

Ephesians 5:3 declares, "But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people." NIV

God's word tells us that a God's man is the one who eliminates every hint of sexual immorality from his life. He is the one who is not pursuing excellence with purity, but pure obedience. Not striving to be good in the world's eyes, but pursuing purity through obedience in God's eyes. This is God's man.

"He is the one who eliminates all threats to his obedience to Christ."

God's man does these things:
He unplugs the TV so he does not channel surf for sin.
He uses the Internet wisely by protecting it from pornography.
He throws away all media that has even the smallest sexual content.
He turns and looks the other way to avoid lusting after a woman.
He refuses to watch any movie that has sexual content.
He runs to the Word of God when facing sexual temptation.

Young guys, to be God's man, you will face opposition from Satan. He wants to deceive and destroy any purity in your life. Understand that you are at war. When you are at war, you go to war to win. Therefore, to win the war on sexual sin, we need to build a wall of defense in our lives. This wall of defense can only be built by a fortress of protection upon our eyes, our mind, and our heart.

1. Our eyes need to focus on spiritual things not sexual things.
"Looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ." Titus 2:13

2. Our mind need to be thinking about the Lord not lust.
"For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace." Romans 8:6

3. Our heart need to be protected by the Word not perverted by the world.
"How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word. Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You." Psalm 119:9, 11

These three things are the essential perimeters of defense to win the war on sexual sin. "Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever." 1 John 2:15-17. Guys, do not love the world. It will let you down. Lust will make you a loser. Pornography will make you a pervert. Sexual sin will make you stupid. Do not love the world. Do not be a man's man, but God's man.

Be God's man, and live for him with your whole heart. Love Jesus. Focus on Him, think about Him, and protect yourself with Him. If you do these things now, you will reap wonderful blessings from the Lord, and your outer life will match the inner life God created in you from the foundation of the world.

2 Timothy 2:22
Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
(New American Standard Bible:1995)

God thorough Paul Commands us to flee LUSTS (any youthful longing) and then commands us to pursure (which is to "march" , "chase" , "to set in rapid motion") righteousness, faith, love and peace. What is amazing is that it is saying to continually pursue these things all the days of your life Timothy (young men). But verse 21 is what sets this all in order. The only way we can do this is by sanctifying ourselves from the youthful lusts.

Praise be to God that He sent Christ that we might live. By "being not druck with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." Ephesians 5:18

You are Loved in Christ brother.
